Fairmont Prep edges Mira Costa 2nd round of CIF-SS playoffs

It was a close game between Mira Costa and Fairmont Prep Wednesday night at Fairmont Prep. The Mustangs built a 26-19 lead at half-time, but saw it vanish as the game was tied at 32 to start the 4th quarter. Every time Mira Costa seemed to pull away, Fairmont Prep created runs of their own to keep them within striking distance. The game came down to the wire with Mira Costa up by one, 16 seconds left in the game, and Fairmont Prep with the ball. They were able to work the ball inside and score a basket to take the lead with 1.1 second left in the game. That brought an end to Mira Costa’s season with a final score of 44-45 and as always, an emotional loss for the team as they reflected on the seniors playing in their last game. It was a great season and thanks to all who supported the program throughout the season!

Mira Costa wins first round of CIF-SS playoffs

February 12, 2022

Mira Costa won its first round CIF-SS playoff game against Bonita 42-32 Saturday night at Bonita High School. Both teams struggled to make shots in the first half and it was a close game with Mira Costa carrying a 13-12 lead in to half-time. Mira Costa broke it open in the 3rd quarter and hit a last second shot in the quarter to put the Mustangs up 32-17. Bonita made a surge late in the 4th quarter, but Mira Costa was able to hold them off to secure the victory. Next up will be Fairmont Prep on Wednesday night who defeated Alemany 49-40 in their first round match-up Saturday night.

CIF Southern Section Brackets Revealed

The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets were announced today. Mira Costa obtained an at-large bid in Division 1 and will be facing Bonita High School on the road this Saturday, February 12, at 7pm.

December 23, 2021

Mira Costa faced a tough Oxnard team in the opening round of the 2021 Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions. Oxnard led by as much as 10 points in the second quarter, but Mira Costa fought hard to stay in the game and managed to take a 3 point lead in to halftime. Oxnard lead most of the third quarter, but Mira Costa took the lead for good early in the fourth quarter and secured the win 56-47.

In the semifinal game, Mira Costa cruised to a victory against Aliso Niguel 60-21.

The championship game was another tough matchup against Orange Lutheran, ranked top 15 in CIF Southern Section. Mira Costa jumped out to a 10 point lead mid way through the second quarter and hung on to a 4 point lead at halftime. Orange Lutheran came out strong in the third quarter and took over a 5 point lead at the end of the quarter. Orange Lutheran lead all of the fourth quarter with Mira Costa making a push to cut the deficit down to 1 with 7 seconds left in the game. However, Mira Costa just couldn’t take the lead and fell to Orange Lutheran 41-45.

It was an exciting game, a successful tournament, and all had a good time!

Mira Costa crowned champions at Valley Christian Tournament

Mira Costa defeated a talented Valley View team 52-42 Saturday night at the 44th Annual Valley Christian Girls Varsity Tournament championship game. To reach the finals, the Lady Mustangs put up wins during the week against Valley Christian, Cypress, Murrieta Mesa, and La Serna.

The Mini-Mustang Clinic was a huge success!
